History

On February 20, 1980, Messiah Lutheran Church officially became a Body of Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit as 78 people signed its charter document. Those people made a covenant together to, as stated in their own words, “…commit ourselves, with the help of God, to bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ to all people… lead meaningful lives as God’s people by living harmoniously with others in our community. As evidence of our commitment, we pledge our support and active participation in furthering God’s ministry in our community and the world. With the help of the Holy Sprit, we will express through our church and lives our love and faith in Jesus Christ our Lord.” Each person, who has joined Messiah since that time has become a part of that legacy, and has allied themselves to that commitment.

In 1984 Messiah finished construction of the initial building phase (Fellowship Hall, offices and education wing) after worshiping in Charlotte Latin School for 5 years. Our Preschool began in 1987  and remains a successful and sought after school for children in the community.

In 1999, construction plans began for the sanctuary and it was completed in time for Christmas services in 2003.

By the grace of God, the family of Messiah strives to be in God’s will: making disciples of all nations. Our vision statement encapsulates our calling as we want others to LOOK UP with us and receive the fullness of God’s grace. We want to see others working with us as we LOOK AROUND for encouragement and support. And we need others to LOOK OUTWARD with us to feel compassion for those who are still “sitting in darkness”.
